In response to the invitation of the order of Friars Minor (OFM,Cap), to collaborate in the mission at Mamit, Sr Canisia, the Provincial Superior of Northeast Province of Bethany sent Sr Christita and Sr Irene Therese to Mamit on June 14, 2001. It is they who sowed the seed of goodness and God’s love in the soil of Mamit until Bethany was canonically erected on 4th of March 2003. It was a humble beginning as they lived in a rented house with one room which served as a multipurpose room for prayer, study, store room etc. and a kitchen.

Community
No sooner had they arrived in Mamit, sisters actively engaged themselves in the lives of the people, visiting families and catechizing them. Sisters attracted children, teenagers and youth alike, helping them in their integral growth. In the holidays they would go to neighbouring villages to prepare the Catholics for the reception of the sacraments. Sisters collaborate with the Capuchin Fathers in education ministry. Care of the HIV/AIDS was another concern that had been identified in the district of Mamit. Sr Valsala and Sr Lucy Vanlalnghaki started visiting from Sihphir, preparing the ground for the launch of Bethany’s social service. It is noteworthy to mention here the name of late Sr Valsala, who had already been working with people living with HIV/AIDS before Bethany came to Mamit. She got a project with Mizoram State Aids Control Society (MSACS) to be launched at Mamit. Thus Bethany Social Welfare Society started functioning in a rented house on 21st of July 2002. Sr Lucy Vanlalnghaki along with two other staff began this noble work. Sr Valsala served as the Project Director of this society till her untimely death on 19th September 2009.

November 5th, 2019 was an important milestone as we inaugurated the Swadhar Grih – Bethany Solace Home, a home for the women and children in distress, under Social Welfare Ministry of the Government. This came as a welcome gift through Sr Reshma as her services to the society has been largely recognized by the ministry. Sisters are thus involved in pastoral care, socio-medical and education ministries collaborating with various government and non-government organizations. Former superiors: Sr Christita, Sr Primiot, Sr Theresa Zothanpari and Sr Reshma.
