Pastoral Apostolate

Pastoral Apostolate

I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak. Ezekiel 34:16

A whole world awaits us; men and women who have lost hope, families in difficulty, neglected children, young people without a future, the elderly, the sick and the abandoned, those who are rich in the world’s goods but impoverished within, the men and women looking for a purpose in life thirsting for the divine….Don’t be closed in on yourselves, don’t be stifled by petty squabbles, don’t remain a hostage to your own problems. These will be resolved if you go forth and help others to resolve their own problems, and proclaim the Good News. You will find life by giving life, hope by giving hope, and love by giving love.’ (Apostolic Letter of Pope Francis to All Consecrated People Ch 2:4)

In the above words, Pope Francis earnestly calls upon consecrated people to go out of their comfort zones and immerse themselves in the lives of the people. Our Fr Founder RFC Mascarenhas recognized the struggles of people in his time and gave himself totally to bring solace to them in whatever way he could. It was for the same purpose he started our congregation. Pastoral service has been part and parcel of our institute’s life and ministry. Family visits, catechesis, pastoral tours, involvement in the activities in the parish sub-station churches, and various organizations in the parish-youth, women, children, prayer groups etc., are our ways of remaining close to the people. Quoting Pope Francis once again, pastoral care calls for living with the sheep and getting the smell of the sheep. Bethany stands committed to this ministry and will strive to make it relevant as years roll by and the needs of people change with changing circumstances of their lives and the world.

Our Province members serve in 17 parishes of various Archdiocese and Diocese. They are: Archdiocese of Shillong, Archdiocese of Imphal, Archdiocese of Guwahati, Diocese of Agartala, Diocese of Aizawl, and Diocese of Kohima.

Mission
Our Apostolic Activities

Our educational ministry aims at making the will of God come true by formation of the whole human person. Through education, we strive to transform the society by creating a new world order of freedom, fellowship, equality and justice. Pastoral service has been part and parcel of our institute’s life and ministry. Family visits, catechesis, pastoral tours, involvement in the activities in the parish sub-station churches, and various organizations in the parish-youth, women, children, prayer groups etc., are our ways of remaining close to the people.

To support and collaborate with us in our mission we have an organisation of committed men and women called Bethany Lay Association (BLA) in most of the parishes where we work. Hostels have become an integral part of our education ministry. Through our hostels we offer to children and youth from rural area. As followers of Christ every Bethany Sister has the mission of awakening in every human heart a quest for the divine and share the compassionate love of Jesus with humanity. The formation of a Bethany Sister (BS) is a Faith journey that involves six key stages: Affiliate/Candidacy, Pre-Novitiate, Novitiate, Juniorate, Tertianship and Ongoing Formation. Read More »
