Community History
Date and year of Establishment: March 25, 2011
St. Theresa Convent, Ngharpet Veng, Mamit was established on March 25th 2011. The people of Mamit, Mizoram had donated some land to the Diocese of Aizawl for some developmental work. It was in 2006 a double- storeyed building was built for National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
In 2007, the office of the Bethany Social Service Society, Drop–in Centre and Health Centre which had already existed in Bazar Veng were shifted to this place. Sr Valsala and Sr Lucy Uchoi who were In-charge of this ministry and Sr Therese Zothanpari who worked in Father`s school stayed there. However they were still part of the community of Bethany Convent, Bazarveng. Meanwhile the strength of the school increased at Bazar veng. It was then felt necessary to shift High School to Ngharpet veng which was done in the year 2011. On March 25th 2011 a full fledge community was erected. It was named St Theresa Convent. Sr Noeline, the Provincial Superior of Guwahati Province inaugurated the new building and was blessed by Fr Alban D` Souza. The pioneer sisters to this community were: Sr Carmine Lobo as superior, Sr Juliana Lolia, Sr Sunitha Mary and Sr Bankyntiew as members. In 2016 Sr Mary Naulak took up superiorship till 2019. Apart from education ministry sisters actively involved in Pastoral ministry . They go with the priests to villages for Mass and other important functions. They visit families in the parish and pray with them.
