The Second Provincial Assembly of Silchar Province |
The Second Provincial Assembly of Silchar Province was held from March 18-20, 2022 at Bethany Provincial House, Silchar. Local Superiors of 17 convents of the Province, a delegate of one superior and one formator along with the Provincial Superior and her team were the eager participants of the Assembly. The Assembly kicked off in a spiritual tone with the opening prayer conducted by Sr Leena Miranda, superior of Holy Cross Convent, Dimapur. The participants were heartily welcomed by Sr Clara Mendonca the Assistant Provincial who also introduced the theme and purpose of the Assembly. The highlights of the first day were the key note address of the Provincial Superior Sr Lucious, input sessions by Sr Clara Mendonca, Assistant Provincial and reports from superiors of 18 communities and the directresses of the Pre-Novitiate and Come and See stages. It was heartening to note that the communities are growing in many ways and that they are aware of the areas that they need to take care. |
The second day of the Assembly was marked by jubilee celebration. At 6 am, a special hour of prayer was conducted by Sr Pushpa Joseph and Sr Sunitha Mary to mark the golden jubilee of Sr Felcy Tellis, Sr Praxides, Sr Shalini D’ Souza and the silver jubilee of Sr Shanthi D’ Souza. The participants of the Assembly, members of Holy Family Convent, and the student candidates spent an hour in thanking God and praying for them. We were delighted to have Most Rev Stephen Rotluanga DD, Bishop of Aizawl to celebrate the Eucharist, during which the jubilarians renewed their vows to God. He was assisted by five other priests. After the holy Mass a simple function was held and the jubilarians were felicitated and honoured by Sr Lucious on behalf of the Province. |
Other events of the second day were reports from the coordinators of the various apostolates, input sessions from Fr Joachim Walder, Apostolic Vicar of Deanery of Barak Valley and Sr Mary Naulak, report from the Province Procurator and the Provincial Superior’s report. On the third and last day of the Provincial Assembly, there was a short sharing from two members: Sr Gretta D’ Souza shared about pastoral apostolate in her community and Sr Niveditha shared her community’s vocation animation strategy. This was followed by input session by Sr Surekha. The most important part was the action plan session where the sisters chalked out a 14- point plan for action covering the areas of life and mission |
In her concluding remarks, the Provincial Superior Sr Lucious appreciated and thanked the sisters for their commitment, love and toil for the kingdom of God. With generous words of encouragement, she also reminded the sisters about certain things that need attention in order to make life joyful and more meaningful. Thus renewed and refreshed, enlightened and equipped, the participants departed to their respective communities, confident in the knowledge that their lives and works matter in the kingdom of God, and that they could do more things for Him who called them to be rooted in Him and build Eucharistic communities in their convents and human fraternity everywhere. |
