Bethany Solace home, Swadhar Greh caters to the needs of women in distress under Mamit District of Mizoram. Started in 2019 it has been providing solace to around 20 inmates. The integral welfare of the women and children is taken care of by providing them timely counseling, legal aid and by helping them to get their identity documents done. Illiterate as they are, Bethany Soalce Home, with their Superintendent Sr Reshma BS in the past and Sr Veronica at present are helping in literacy. They are able to recite many prayers including eight psalms without looking at the text. They intercede for the needs of the world daily by praying Mercy Rosary, at the hour of mercy i.e., 3 pm. They have begun hand copying the Bible from Genesis, and have daily Bible reading and reflections. |
Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, a program launched by the government in 2021 was observed by conducting various activities throughout the year. The inauguration of this program had been done in collaboration with the Women and Child Welfare Department, on 2nd October 2021. In collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Mamit, Mental Health Day had been observed on 8th October 2021. Dr Lalrinfela Hmar, MD, District Hospital, Mamit, was the resource person of the day and he spoke on maintaining positive mental health. More recently, an awareness program on empowerment of women and girl children was conducted on 4th April 2022. Ms. Lalrohlupuii, Counsellor, Bethany Targeted Interventions also spoke about ways to enhance self-esteem and be effective in the society. Weekly observation of cleanliness is kept up with much joy and enthusiasm. Plantation of saplings of fruit bearing trees was also carried out. To mark the Earth Day on April 22nd 2022, an apple sapling was planted in the campus and is taken care of by the inmates. Input session on domestic waste management was given by Sr Veronica. |
International Women’s Day was observed in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mamit, on March 8th 2022. Sr Lucy Uchoi spoke on the importance of women in the society using the dialect of the inmates i.e., Bru dialect. On this occasion competition on psalm recitation and singing was conducted and prizes were distributed. They are being provided skills training like knitting, flower making, tailoring, soap making, piggery and maintaining kitchen garden. The inmates find solace and comfort under the wings of Bethany Solace Home. |
