Floods in Silchar Bethany Provincial House |
Silchar, July 6: June 2022 had brought untold problems in various parts of the world. But the North East of India, particularly Assam was one of the worst hit - by floods. Silchar, where our Provincial House is located was no exception. For over 10 days starting June 18, the town was flooded, with water rising up to first floor of concrete buildings. Our convent too was badly affected and sisters, candidates and hostellers were forced to shift to the first floor when the ground floor was filled with water. They remained cut off for more than a week, without fresh drinking water and electricity. However, good people risked themselves to bring water, food and other requirements during their isolation. |
When the water finally receded after 10 days, the sisters were quick to reach out to others who are worst hit than themselves. They got busy with flood relief work, knowing fully well that there are thousands of people who have lost everything in the flood, including family members. Other communities and institutions in the province are also sending in their contribution in cash and in kind. |
