Home Mission at Mamit

Mamit,

March 25, 2023

A remarkable and testing journey of Home Mission made by eight sisters at Mamit Parish made a deep impact on the life of the sisters and the people they served. The blessings of God and Mother Mary flowing through the prayer of Fr. Samson OFM and the prayer conducted by Sr. Prema Misquith BS accompanied by words of encouragement from Sr. Mary Naulak Provincial Councillor helped the sisters to set out with much joy and enthusiasm to three different villages of Tuipuibari , Zomuantlang and Thaidawr in the western part of Mizoram, bordering Tripura state. Home Mission at Mamit
We are highly appreciative of Fr. Raymond the Parish priest of Mamit who had prepared the ground for Home Mission so well by visiting all the villages to make sure that sisters have a safe stay. Sisters going to Tuipuibari had to walk two and half hours from the village centre to reach their place of mission. Adapting to inconveniences of life and going beyond language barrier they prepared children for First Communion , Baptism and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Numerous meaningful songs taught to the children added life and created a joyful ambience. Complete commitment to their mission compelled them to visit Catholic families and few Protestant families not once but two times. It was truly impressive to have experienced the affection with which the people of Thaidawr welcomed sisters to their village. Every facility possible - from warm bedding to warm water was offered to the Sisters. Sisters were edified by their generosity, deep faith in God and love for Catholic Church and faithful observance of fast on Fridays and their faithfulness to prayers every evening in which Sisters participated. Having to walk hills and valleys did not deter sisters from visiting families . Sisters took opportunities to break the Word of God during every prayer service. They taught Mass Responses and short English songs to children that added to the vibrancy of the church . Apart from spiritual aspect sisters held discussions with catholic women in view of empowering them. They were made aware of their potentials and their worth as women and their role in the Church. Their difficulties were listened to. They spent a joyful time of interaction and prayer. The Journey of Home Mission at Thaidawr concluded with a prayer conducted by Sisters .

Home Mission at Mamit
Zomuantlang mission has its own unique nature which was rather a demanding mission. It was awe inspiring that sisters have adjusted themselves so well in a testing environment. There was power shut down all through their stay except for an hour. Scarcity of water restricted sisters from having proper shower. They too were not hindered by language barrier. They taught them Mass Responses and liturgical hymns as well as Mass Readings in Mizo in addition to songs . It was rather challenging to deepen their faith as they seemed to be more concerned about external activities. However, in spite of the rather indifferent environment sisters remained optimistic and happy . In conclusion I would say that it was those petty challenges that made sisters' experience meaningful and fruitful. In all the three villages the Sisters made two common findings. They are poor facilities for health check up and lack of proper education. Perhaps to the people of Thaidawr, Zomuantlang and Tuipuibari, the gospel of Christ might mean some health centres and schools.
