October 30, 2024 was a momentous day at Holy Cross Girls Hostel, Depacherra as it was the Hostel Parents Day. Being a home to 165 tribal children of the surrounding villages this hostel has been the cradle for significant growth and transformation of the region. It was all joy and satisfaction for the parents of these young minds to witness their wards blooming beautifully under the care of Bethany sisters. The celebrations began with shouts of praises to God at 1.45 pm. Sr Chandita BS, the Superior of Bethany Convent, Depacherra, welcomed the distinguished guests, parents and others who have come for the occasion. The hostellers amused the gathering by their amazing enactment of the story Moana, an adventurous girl, who dared to listen to her own inner vice, who gathered her courage to withstand the unsurmountable odds in the ocean and saved her people. She embarked on her voyage, displaying undaunted courage and confidence finding her own identity in her greater call.
It was the esteemed presence of Chief Guest, Ms Dolly Reang, executive member, Social Welfare and Social Education Govt of Tripura, T.T.A.A.D.C. that made the event even more wonderful as she is one among their own community who had reached her current status through her determination, fear of God and love for the people. Through her heart provoking message, she touched the hearts of the parents and the students calling them to rise above, making use of the opportunities provided, to believe in their own potentials and the mercy of God.
Sr Prema Misquith BS, the Provincial Councillor graced the occasion. She was all praise for the wonderful performance of the students, the hard work and guidance of Sr Chandita, the animator of the Convent, Sr Remee, the Hostel Directress, Sr Josyna, the Asst Hostel Directress and Sr Isabella. She enthused the students to excel in their academic studies along with other co-curricular activities. She called upon the parents to contribute their share for the upbringing for their children in the hostel. We were delighted by the presence of Fr Lawrence Darlong, the Parish Priest and Principal of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, other priests, the parish leaders and well-wishers. The students who excelled in academics were honoured on the occasion. The program wound up with Sr Remee Maring voicing out her sentiments of gratitude towards all in her vote of thanks.
