Hope does not disappoint” (Rom 5:5), but strengthens us in times of trial. Bethany sisters at Silchar, celebrated the 33rd World Day of the Sick in this Jubilee Year 2025, at Shishu Bhavan, Tarapur. In a meaningful prayer service that followed, we lifted them up to the Lord, instilling in them the hope in which the Church invites us to become “pilgrims of hope”. We reflected upon the gospel where Jesus healed Simon’s mother-in-law and many who were sick. In the intercessory prayers, we prayed for the divine healing for the sick, peace for the troubled, and strength for the caregivers. As the hymn was sung, all the sisters present prayed over all the residents for healing, strength and courage. The sense of unity and shared compassion filled the place. The prayer service was continued with honouring Our Lady, Health of the Sick by praying the Rosary in Bengali and Hindi languages. The residents too joined in, some through silent prayer, others in reciting rosary prayerfully. .
Throughout the service, there was a profound sense of joy and hope that seemed to uplift the spirits of all the inmates. Coming together in prayer brought a sense of purpose and solidarity among the inmates, reminding them that they are not alone in their struggles. Several inmates shared that the service provided them with a renewed sense of hope, helping them feel more connected not only to their faith but also to one another. The joy was not so much in physical well-being, but in the community’s loving presence, prayer, and encouragement. This shared experience of spiritual unity provided hope to the inmates, making them feel valued and cared for.
